On April 1, 2025, unfortunately, you will see a tariff surcharge added on to our sales at checkout (10% on home goods and 16% on seat covers and horse tack). Not all sales will have one. It depends when and what country the product was purchased. You will find a tariff attached to seat covers, rugs, furniture, and horse tack products. The only category that is exempt from an additional tariff charge are our designer (EMU and MOU) sheepskin boots and slippers. All other slippers will have a tariff applied as a price increase.
We’re not sure how long this will last. It could be permanent. It depends upon the US government, If it looks like it will be permanent, we will adjust our pricing to accommodate the new “tariff included” pricing. But right now, it could go away as fast as it came.
Please know, the tariff charges are added because we are charged at wholesale level. In some cases, it’s a line item on our wholesale invoices. In others, it’s just a price increase spurred by the tariffs. This isn’t an Ultimate Sheepskin charge, It’s a US Government charge that we have to pass along to you, the customer. Or we wouldn’t be in business for very long. We could just increase our prices, but we here at Ultimate Sheepskin believe it’s important for you to know exactly what you are paying for and why. Amazon has also started doing this so you, as the consumer, won’t be deceived in to thinking these charges aren’t affecting the price of goods. Tariffs increase the price of goods. Period.
Right now, there is an insane 145% tariff from China. Many of our pelts are shipped to China from New Zealand or Australia to be processed and in some cases manufactured, then shipped to the US for either manufacturing or just distribution. I don’t see this changing any time soon. Factories will not be built in the US to process sheepskin. So either we charge 145% as a tariff (in which case would make the product too expensive for you to buy) or not sell the product. Right now our vendors are not ordering products to replace the ones that have sold out. So you will see many of their products going away. As of this posting (April 29, 2025) our product count has gone down from 550 products to 372. What does that mean to you? It means products, you have come to rely on from us, will no longer be sold. I don’t know which products they are because as vendors run out of certain items, they stop selling them. With no warning.
I hope we, and other small businesses like us can weather this self inflicted storm our current president is putting us through. But if it keeps up, I don’t see that happening.
Please contact your congressional representatives to discuss changing this situation.
